Cheat codes in video games are the best! Unfortunately, life’s cheat codes come with a lot of blood, sweat and tears. I am now 45 years old and based on mortality tables, I have lived 50% of my life. Scary! Sometimes it feels like I’ve already lived two lifetimes. Ha,ha. Nevertheless, here are some cheat codes to life I wish I would have known at age 20.

  1. Who you decide to marry is the biggest emotional, spiritual and financial decision of your life, choose wisely.
  2. Invest 6% of your income and you will work for 50 years before you retire. Invest 30% of your income and you can work for 25 years and retire. This is your game. You get to decide how you play.
  3. No one cares about you except your family and maybe your best friends; learn this now.
  4. Time is an asset you cannot buy more of; spend it wisely.
  5. If you are blessed to be able to call your mom or dad, call them often. You won’t have that chance forever. Your parents sacrificed everything to give you a better life, so take care of them.
  6. Never post your location online! This is just plain foolish; you don’t know who is watching.
  7. If you don’t start today, you won’t start tomorrow.
  8. Being selfish is not a bad thing; make sure you fill up your own cup before you try and pour into others.
  9. Comfort is a drug, once you become an addict, you can kiss your goals and dreams goodbye.
  10. Money will not change you. It’ll just bring out your true character. Pay it forward.
  11. Donate. Steward wisely the money that you have. God doesn’t care how much money you have only how much you give.
  12. Most people these days are lazy. You can out-perform 99% of them if you just show up and are consistent every day.
Take one or two of these and ponder them this week.  Start applying them to your life this month and I have 13 more next month!
