Empowering Others
As leaders, empowering others is one of our most important responsibilities. Some people in leadership positions are intimidated by this concept because they don’t want someone else eventually taking their job. By empowering others around us we are essentially multiplying our efforts and productivity. We are then free to focus on other issues and tasks when we stop micromanaging others and empower them instead. Is it the riskier move? Yes. In the SEAL Teams we have the job of teaching and empowering the “new guys” once they join their first platoon. At times it is frustrating and risky, but it is well worth it in the end.
