Let me ask you a question: Are your behaviors toward those you lead or manage “hard” or “soft?”

How you talk to others (tone of voice, voice inflection, the words you use and even our body language) matters.

Although my natural tendency is to be hard, as a leader, I err on the side of soft except for those occasions when a harder approach is warranted.

Hard leaders can invite commitment, loyalty, and productivity, but on the flip side, they can also invite resistance, defensiveness, and resentment.

How do you invite one over the other? It’s all in how you see people.

Like last week’s blog, do you tend to minimize people or see them agents to accomplish our agendas and goals? Or, do you see them as unique people who have intrinsic value and worth?

By balancing your leadership style with the individual’s value and worth, you’re guaranteed to get the job done.
