Scientists, psychologists, and other researchers are now starting to understand that the power of connection goes from the womb to the tomb.
Relationships affect our physical and mental functioning throughout our lives. This “invisible power” of relationships, according to Dr. Henry Cloud, “actually builds the hardware and software that leads to healthy functioning and better performance in our lives.”
For example, how many times have you seen a friend, colleague, family member, boss or board member stifle others around them?
They seem to suck the positivity, joy, and fun out of a room. They seem to ruin the atmosphere of a culture or team when they are involved. (I think we have all been there.)
The opposite, however, is true as well.
Others can energize and motivate us, and seem to bring out the best in people. They act as an adhesive in a team, pulling people together as they practically breathe life into cultures and work environments.
And every so often, the right person will show up and have a drastic impact on our lives (for good or bad).
This is the power of connection.
