Last week we talked about self-deception. Leaders often deceive themselves in the way they verbally manage (or lead) others.
Sure, everyone gets frustrated or irritated at times, but how you consistently speak to people is a huge deal at home and in the workplace.
Do you have a bite to your words? Do you often talk down or criticize others?
Maybe you have a short fuse or publicly spotlight others mistakes or shortcomings. Are you a leader who gives grace and second chances, or are you the hammer that comes down hard on people when they mess up?
This type of leadership is dangerous because it fosters a fear-driven work culture. It tears down trust amongst your team and can cause bitterness or resentment toward you.
This week, ask at least three close friends how you come across in different environments and remain open to their feedback instead of going with the natural inclination to reject their perspective.
