Last week, we talked about the danger of burn out. Here are nine warning signs to consider:

  • Your personal and professional relationships are increasingly limited and/or superficial.
  • You become more impatient and critical of people.
  • During meetings, you feel like you’re just going through the motions.
  • You make decisions based on what’s easy, not what’s best.
  • Caring for people is a stressful and unwelcome burden.
  • You avoid hard conversations because it is just easier.
  • There is a lack of purpose and joy in your life.
  • You rarely take time for introspection and don’t take as good of care of yourself as you used to.
  • Your energy levels are depleted and you feel like you’re in autopilot.

Of course, there may be occasions or a season in our lives when we might experience some of the dynamics listed. However, if any of the above statements have become a repeated pattern in your life, you are at risk of burnout.

But there is an antidote! Next week, we will talk about one helpful practice we can incorporate in our lives.
