Getting from point A to point B requires two things: a vehicle and the fuel to keep moving.
For the next couple of weeks, we will be talking about our core values or principles. In my last blog, I encouraged people to find a list of values, choose three and then write them down.
In my coaching conversations, I help my clients develop a road map of where they want to go and I tell them that the vehicle we use to get there will be their vision statements and the gas in the tank will be their core values.
Why is that important?
Our core values drive our thoughts, beliefs, and actions. All the successful people I know have a list of core values and a personal vision statement that they live by.
In his book, Principles, author Ray Dalio states, “Having good principles (or values) for the ways we encounter reality will guide how we react to these encounters.”
So, ask yourself a few questions as you work on a plan to reach your goals:
1- What does your roadmap (list of goals) look like?
2- What vehicle (vision statement) will use to get there?
3- Do you have enough fuel (core values) to get you where you’re going?
