This month, I have been learning the priceless value of rest.
Many believe that today’s frenzied workplace drains us of our energy and in many ways moves us backward. It is a mistake to assume that those who put in the longest hours are the most productive.
Thomas Jefferson said, “It is neither wealth nor splendor but tranquility and occupation which give happiness.”
And in his book, Rest, author Alex Soojung-Kim Pang argues that we should treat work and rest as equals. To have one without the other is simply foolishness.
Rest is a skill to learn and practice on a daily and weekly basis. When practiced well, rest can make us more productive, creative and focused both in our professional and private lives.
What are your thoughts on rest and how seriously do you take it?
