The Bells We Wear

Sheep are stupid animals.

Did you know that sheep will only eat what is literally right in front of them?  They don’t even look around to see where the best food is! 

Shepherds have an important task of making sure their sheep don’t just wander off and have cleverly discovered that by putting a bell around one sheep’s neck, the rest of the herd will blindly follow the sound of the bell.

We are all like sheep at times. And, as leaders, we find ourselves with a bell fastened around our necks. Oftentimes, the only difference between us and those we lead is the bell we wear.

Leaders are still sheep and can make foolish decisions at times, but it’s how we recover from those mistakes and how we conduct ourselves that matters. The people we lead are watching us, especially when we fall short.

Remain humble, take responsibility and learn from our shortcomings and you will wear your bell with honor and integrity.
