Asking Great Questions

Asking the right questions will get you very far in life.  To passively sit back and pretend to know what is going on is foolish.  In the SEAL Teams not knowing what is going on and not asking questions could get you killed.  Here are some basic reminders in asking good questions:

  1. Ask questions that don’t put people on the defense – Avoid seeking “right” answers
  2. Make your questions clear and concise- be sure people understand you.
  3. Say what you mean! Don’t hint or beat around the bush with questions. Instead be direct and tactfully forthright.
  4. Avoid closed questions and practice asking open ended questions.

There are no stupid questions, but there are inquisitive idiots.
