Can I be honest? Temptation sucks. No matter how old you are, how rich or poor you are or what your education level, no one is immune to temptation. All human beings are tempted in one way or another (cheating, quitting, stealing, feeding habits, lying, etc.). The key is not trying to avoid being tempted, but it is HOW we respond in the midst of the temptation. In the SEAL teams I was tempted in many ways. Of of those ways to preform a job or task at less than my ability. Unfortunately, all human beings are inherently lazy and selfish so combating this temptation to preform less than 100% was a constant struggle.
Over the next couple of weeks I am going to talk about two key elements to overcoming and resisting temptations. Those two elements are self control and perspective. How do we increase our self control and how can we gain perspective in the midst of those annoying and often deadly temptations? They compliment each other well and will aid you in staying the straight and narrow course. Stay tuned!
