Completing the world’s toughest military training reinforced my belief in the power of the mind.
It made me realize that just when we think we have hit our limits, our minds can push us far beyond what we thought was ever possible. And the way we choose to think about obstacles has an immense impact on our behavior and mental fortitude.
Regardless of whether you’re in business, a student, a stay-at-home dad or mom or in between jobs, the power of our minds is crucial for living a successful life. But since we all think, feel and make choices in unique ways, it is important to gain a better understanding of how we, as unique individuals, respond to the circumstances around us.
In this series of blogs, I will focus on our minds and the cognitive power we can wield as we seek to better ourselves — especially during these uncertain times.
But one of the most important aspects of mental toughness is good cognitive self-care or taking opportunities to unplug and unwind mentally from the demands of our daily lives.
So this week, think of two activities you can practice that will help rejuvenate your mind like:
- Taking a nap
- Reading a book
- Listening to music
- Calling a friend
- Praying
- Going for a walk
- Practicing yoga
- Meditating
Perhaps you have your own calming tools in your arsenal. Whatever it is, make sure you’re practicing it daily!
